Gatsby's Greatest Party
Step back in time to the opulent era of the 1920s, where jazz was king, flappers ruled the dance floors, and the glitz and glamour of the Gatsby age reigned supreme. The Grade 11 English students hosted an immersive speakeasy in the dazzling world of F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby," transforming our gym into a scene straight out of the Roaring Twenties.
The festivities commenced as students entered the soiree through glittering black and gold adorned streamers, instantly transporting them to the lavish parties of the 1920s New Yorker’s elite, with “West End Blues” by Louis Armstrong setting the perfect ambiance for the morning ahead.
The Grade 11s embraced the fashion of the era with flapper dresses, sharp suits, feathered headbands, and handcrafted wrist corsages for the whole school. The spirit of Jay Gatsby himself seemed to linger in the air as students mingled and danced, led by our leading ladies, Belle, Sage, Maya, and Julia, who were teaching the Charleston.
In true Gatsby fashion, guests indulged in an array of decadent treats and refreshments, including home made 1920s-inspired mocktails like the “GIN RICKEY” and “CLOVER CLUB." The laughter and chatter of students filled the air as they sampled delights fit for the most extravagant of parties. Of course, no party is complete without a photo booth opportunity and 1920s props to remember an iconic decade.
Jay Gatsby himself made a surprise visit as Mady kept our party rolling. We raised our glasses to the magic of the past, celebrating a decade of splendour and sophistication. Until next time, old sport, when we shall once again step back in time to relive the glories of the Jazz Age.
