Spelling Bees are much more than just the rote learning of words. They are an opportunity to expand your vocabulary and knowledge, to engage in healthy competition while learning how to manage pressure and build confidence, plus, they’re fun.

This year HNMCS created our first Spelling Bee team with 15 dedicated Middle School students who spent their lunches practising the correct spelling of more than 400 words provided by Spelling Bee Canada.

All that practice paid off. Chidimma Aliozar ’23 placed second at the Peel Regional Spelling Bee and Beatrice Carcao ’22 came in first at the North York Regional Spelling Bee. Congratulations girls and to all members of the team on a very successful first season!
