PowerSchool cyber incident

The type of student information that may have been accessed by an authorized user includes:

• First, middle and last names
• Date of birth
• Gender
• Ontario Education Number
• Grade level
• School start and end date
• Home Address
• Home phone number
• Mailing address (if different from home address)
• HNMCS student number
• Medical alert information (i.e. allergies, injuries) - if applicable
• Custodial alert information - if applicable
• International student status

The type of parent/guardian information that may have been accessed by an authorized user includes:

• First, middle and last names
• Home Address
• Home phone number
• Mailing address (if different from home address)
• email address
• Relationship to student

The type of staff information that may have been accessed by an authorized user includes:

• First and last names
• Gender
• Home Address
• Home phone number
• HNMCS email address

PowerSchool has shared with its customers that it has taken the following steps in response to the incident:

• Changing the password of all PowerSchool staff that access the system
• Increasing password requirements of all PowerSchool staff
• Contacted appropriate law enforcement
• Engaged security companies that specialize in data breaches
• Offering credit monitoring and identity protection services for individuals whose information was involved. This is despite the fact that no financial information or social security numbers were stored in the SIS
