Mission Matters
150 years ago, five women left their homeland and travelled across the tumultuous ocean to minister to Polish immigrants in Polonia, Wisconsin, United States. The Felician Sisters then helped grow the social service system in the US and Canada, serving and loving those forgotten by our world. It is this wonderful legacy that our Mission and Heritage Week 2024 theme honours: The Lord has done great things for us, we are filled with joy - 150 years.
Between October 4th and 11th, HNMCS celebrates the Felician way of life, which we are called to live each and every day. Blessed Mary Angela followed God's will, not society's rules, to care for women, orphans, elderly, and the poor. Inspired by St. Francis of Assisi, she called on her sisters to live as he lived - turning away from worldly comforts to follow God's call to a joyful life of simplicity, prayer and service.
How can we educate, form, and parent our girls so that they embody this message? How can we embrace a deeper life of simplicity, personally and professionally? How can we make more space for joy, for prayer, for service? May God give us the grace to discern our way forward.
Peace,
Matthew Snowdon, Director of Mission & Ministry
