Young Entrepreneurs Shine At The Middle School Market
This fall, the Middle School students used the design lab to explore different interdisciplinary topics. The Grade 5 and 6 students used their research and design skills to explore environmentally friendly cosmetic products and companies. They researched the companies’ overall effects on society as well as the different technologies they use to positively impact the environment. The students then had a chance to use the design lab Cricut machines to create and produce travel bags.
The Grade 7 class spent the fall learning about all the preparation and hard work that goes into starting a business. These young entrepreneurs created business plans and used financial literacy skills to produce budgets and expense reports. They also learned about marketing by identifying their target customers and then created a name and logo for their business. Using the innovative tools in the design lab, they made their own piece of unique merchandise. As a culminating activity, the students created the “Middle School Market”, where they sold their products to friends and family just in time for Christmas!
