200+ Students & Staff and over 800 hours of service.
Every year, HNMCS students participate in Giving Tuesday. Most people know about Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but Giving Tuesday is an opportunity for our community to give their time to serve the various organizations that we as a school partner with for this special occasion. It is also a perfect way to begin the Advent Season. Advent is a time of waiting and preparing for the birth of our Saviour, Jesus. Jesus was born as an infant, in poverty and helpless. Jesus invites us to see Him in all that we encounter, especially the less unfortunate or underserved in our surrounding community, to prepare our hearts for His birth.
Senior School Students venture out to placements throughout the GTA. This year’s placement included: The Archdiocese of Toronto, Good Shepherd, Seva Food Bank, St. Felix Centre, Chartwell Regency Retirement Home, AIM Adults in Motion, Forum Italia, EcoSource, the Felician Sisters, Salvation Army, Trafalgar Park Community Centre, Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, CHATS Seniors Buildings and The Catholic Children’s Aid Society in Hamilton. Students spent the day with the elderly, preparing Christmas decorations for churches and convents, sorting food banks or requesting donations from passersby and more!
Students appreciated the break from academics to spend time with each other and help others. HNMCS Staff enjoy the time outside of the classroom to build relationships with students in a unique way, and model the spirit of gratitude that they hope students will maintain beyond their years at HNMCS. The HNMCS community strives to foster joy in its staff and students, anxiously waiting for the blessing of Christmas.
