It had been 3 years since students had experienced the winter magic that is camp with ALIVE Outdoors at Camp Wanakita! The mild weather meant that late night hikes could last longer, laughter could be louder and trips up and down the tobogganing hill were run faster. Students in grades 8 and 10 spent 4 days in Haliburton stretching their own boundaries, trying cross country skiing and broomball.
There were Iron Chef competitions, partner races to the top of climbing walls, helping friends over other walls and beautiful moments at sit spots in the woods, reflecting on our many gifts while thinking about all of the ways we plan to grow. Downtime was spent catching up with friends, making wristsful of friendship bracelets, playing in competitive games of GaGa Ball, music showdowns and getting to know one another outside of the classroom.
Our outstanding Grade 11 and 12 leaders made this experience truly memorable with their thoughtful planning and passing on traditions. This year's campfire was hosted by Grade 12’s Demi Pappas, Sara Rinomato, Mariana Attardo, Davis Wells and Brigitte Rauch. This campfire was one for the HNMCS archives, with amazing talents from all of our campers and an epic final dance party!
Gratitude was at the root of this trip and it ended with students sharing exactly what they were grateful for- the community and connection that is HNMCS!
